The Tfronky Pick of the Week – Siouxsie and the Banshees

Siouxsie and the Banshees

Happy Halloween everybody! It would have been very easy for me to pick a band like The Misfits or The Cramps today but I felt like reaching to the way back machine for this pick. Siouxsie and the Banshees formed back in 1976 and while the band was a part of the first wave of U.K. punk rock, this was a group that quickly moved beyond that genre by creating a unique style of psychedelic post punk that over time morphed into a beautiful style of new wave. Although the band has never been a particular favorite of mine The Banshees have always been a band I had a great deal of respect for and liked a number of their songs.

My favorite album has to be 1981’s Juju and “Arabian Knights” from that album is easily my favorite Siouxsie and the Banshees tune. I only had a chance to see the band one time as part of the 1991 Lollapalooza Tour at Compton Terrace during the “Kiss Them for Me” era. That was a great show, glad I had a chance to see them perform because I figured that would be the only opportunity I would have to see them live considering the band has been around for so long. Who knows though, I think it is pretty awesome the band reunited briefly earlier this year in London and played the Kaleidoscope album in its entirety. Maybe again someday …

Here is the track “Halloween” performed live in 1981, another great track from the Juju album. Perfect for today!

Cheers!

Anything going on worth attending and listening to, with a dance beat maybe?
