The Henry Clay People and Source Victoria live at the Crescent Ballroom Thursday July 19

Crescent Ballroom 7-19-2012Yes it’s a school night, but there are simply times when a good show precludes hitting the sack early. This Thursday evening is going to a be a great example of that as The Henry Clay People from Los Angeles invades one of the Valley’s best venues, the Crescent Ballroom. Making the evening even better is the fact one of our best local bands on the scene, Source Victoria, will be opening the show.

I like indie rock but I love high-octane indie rock that possesses a load of pop hooks to boot. The Henry Clay People recently released their third full-length album entitled Twenty Five For The Rest of Our Lives. Needless to say it is a powerful piece of work, highlighted by frenetic work on the guitar, an engaging vocal delivery and a tightness that only lots of stellar work by all four members of the band could accomplish. There is a definite punk aesthetic as a foundation for the songs but the pop hooks truly shine through.

Opening the show is one of this writer’s favorite local bands Source Victoria. The deep, atmospheric dream pop mixed with the band’s mid-tempo indie rock will be the perfect complement to the sound of The Henry Clay People. The musicianship of this five-piece and lead singer Brendan Murphy’s vocal style mesh extremely well together, both on record and during their live shows. Best of all, these guys can flat out play and very well my friends.

Doors to the show open at 7:00pm with an 8:00pm showtime. Ticket prices are $10, a great door price that will leave you plenty of money leftover to buy one of the Crescent’s killer burritos. See you there folks!

Cheers,
Frank
